Junior Educators program

Bahay Tuluyan

The Junior Educators Program is the longest running of Bahay Tuluyan’s Alternative Education programs. Through the program, children are trained to teach other children. Traditionally Junior Educators focused on filling the educational gap experienced by out of school youth and street children. Consequently the curriculum being taught focused on numeracy and literacy, particularly for day care aged children. More recently, as more and more children are receiving academic education in schools and day care institutions, the Junior Educators have shifted focus to teaching about children’s rights and the issues facing children. The aim of this education is to prevent child abuse and exploitation and raise public awareness about the UNCRC. Junior Educators teach children on the street and in the community, their training intended to ensure that they can adapt according to the environment and ‘students’.
