Bahay Tuluyan's Ikot STAR, or Mobile Unit,  is a program serving children living or working on the street in Manila. Using a brightly colored custom built van, the mobile unit team visits children in different areas around Manila. The team provide alternative education, social assistance, first aid and feeding to children on the street. The youth facilitators are volunteers who use their skills to teach other children, child-to-child.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Increase street children’s ability to protect and defend themselves from disease, danger, abuse and exploitation;
  • Provide guidance to assist in the development of street children’s self esteem, value system and inter-personal relationships;
  • Develop relationships of trust between street children and the project staff of Bahay Tuluyan; and
  • Provide an avenue through which children living or working on the street can access social services and more comprehensive assistance.
